Our goal is to support communities, empower farmers, and protect the environment. By adhering to SRP standards, rice producers can secure numerous benefits for themselves, consumers, and the environment, promoting sustainable rice production practices and fostering positive social and economic outcomes across the rice value chain.

Improving Livelihoods

We prioritize improving the livelihoods of our rice producers by promoting sustainable agricultural practices, such as reduced water usage, minimized agrochemical inputs, and enhanced resource efficiency. SRP helps stabilize yields, reduce costs, and improve efficiency by using less water and fewer chemicals. This makes rice production more profitable, ensuring a sustainable livelihood for farmers and their families

Securing Markets for Farmers through Contract Farming

One of the key strategies of the SRP is to secure markets for farmers through contract farming agreements. Contract farming provides farmers with a guaranteed market for their produce, reducing market uncertainties and ensuring a stable income. By adhering to SRP standards, farmers can access premium markets and certification schemes that recognize sustainable production practices, thereby adding value to their produce and increasing their competitiveness in the market.

Premium Prices

SRP standards allows rice producers to charge higher prices for their rice. Premium markets and certification programs often pay more for sustainably produced rice, which includes practices that are better for the environment and society. By meeting these standards, farmers can differentiate their products in the market and attract price premiums, thereby increasing their income and improving their economic well-being.

Empowering and Engaging Women in Production

With SRP, we promote gender-inclusive practices and providing women with access to training, resources, and decision-making opportunities. SRP aims to enhance the role of women in agriculture and improve their socio-economic status. Empowering women in production not only benefits them individually but also strengthens the resilience and prosperity of rice farming communities as a whole.

Improving the Environment

We promote environmentally friendly rice production practices to reduce our environmental impact. By encouraging practices such as reduced water usage, decreased greenhouse gas emissions, and minimized agrochemical inputs, SRP helps conserve natural resources, biodiversity, and reduce CO2 emissions. By meeting European market standards for pesticide use and promoting organic farming practices, SRP contributes to a healthier environment and a more sustainable future.

The Standard comprises 41 requirements structured under eight themes (see Figure 1).
